Turkiye has gained momentum in legume production since the 1980s. Among the reasons for this acceleration are the restriction of fallow land and the support of rural projects.
According to 2005 statistics, field crops are grown on 18.7 million hectares of 28.6 million hectares of agricultural land in Turkey. Edible legumes are grown on 6.2% of the area of 18.7 million.
Chickpeas take the first place in pulses production, followed by lentils, beans, black-eyed peas and peas, respectively.
