70% of the World hazelnut production is made in the Black Sea region of Turkey. An average crop is 600.000 tons/year of hazelnut in shell. According to the area of cultivation, there are three kinds of Turkish hazelnuts which are Ordu (Levant), Giresun and Akçakoca.
Hazelnut is in the healthy snack categories with its composition of fat (high in oleic acid), protein, carbohydrate, vitamin and fiber contents. In addition to being consumed as a snack, hazelnut, which is preferred in the chocolate, ice cream and pastry sectors, gives a tremendous aroma to the product it is used in.
